A widening divide has emerged within the Donald Trump-led MAGA movement after his swift withdrawal of support for longtime ally Marjorie Taylor Greene. At the centre of the rift: the push to release documents tied to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
House Speaker Mike Johnson defended transparency, stating “there’s nothing to hide” over the Justice Department’s holdings of Epstein-related files. Yet Trump accused Greene of going “far-left” after she broke with him on the issue and threatened to back a primary challenger against her in 2026. Greene, in turn, has called for full disclosure of the Epstein materials and warned that wealthy elites should not remain shielded. Her criticism of Trump has widened a fissure within Republican ranks and raised questions about the future cohesion of the MAGA base.
