GGEORGETOWN — Oil production in Guyana surged to 841,000 barrels per day (bpd) in October, marking a significant jump from the previous month’s 771,000 bpd, according to newly released data.
The increase is credited largely to strong performance across multiple projects on the Stabroek Block, including an output climb at the Yellowtail Project as it moves toward full capacity.
This boost reinforces Guyana’s rapid rise as a major oil-producing nation with more milestones expected as new offshore developments come online by the end of the decade.
However, as crude output climbs, questions remain about how revenue will be managed and distributed, and whether the oil boom will translate into sustainable development and benefits for the wider Guyanese population.

Guyana Hits 841,000 bpd in October — Offshore Oil Output Surges

GEORGETOWN, GUYANA (November 12, 2025) — In a major development for the country’s energy sector, ExxonMobil Guyana Limited and its co-venturers have announced that daily oil production from the Stabroek Block has reached 900,000 barrels per day (bpd).
Company president Alistair Routledge described the milestone as a result of collaboration with the Government of Guyana, strategic investment by suppliers and contractors, and a commitment to building a world-class energy industry. The jump in production is driven by the recent start-up of the fourth offshore project in Guyana, Yellowtail, which alone will contribute roughly 250,000 bpd at full capacity. This milestone solidifies Guyana’s status as one of the world’s most rapidly expanding oil producers. Increased output means the country stands to earn substantially more from royalties, profit oil, and crude sales — funds that should support national development and infrastructure. The challenge now lies in managing the surge responsibly: prioritizing environmental safeguards, avoiding economic pitfalls like “Dutch disease,” and ensuring that oil wealth benefits ordinary Guyanese.

Guyana Hits New Milestone — 900,000 Barrels of Oil Per Day
According to OilNow, French geophysical technology company Sercel has secured a five-year contract from ExxonMobil Guyana to provide ongoing technical support and maintenance for its Marlin Vessel Tracking and Alerts (VTA) software — a critical tool introduced in 2024 to boost offshore safety and surveillance.
Under the agreement, Sercel will deliver system maintenance, software enhancements, and 24/7 operational support for the Marlin VTA platform, which offers real-time monitoring and risk assessment of vessel movements in Guyana’s offshore operations. The system provides a common operational picture for Exxon’s control center, improving decision-making and safety coordination around floating production, storage, and offloading units (FPSOs).
Sercel CEO Jérôme Denigot described the deal as a continuation of a “strong collaboration based on proven results,” emphasizing the company’s role in enhancing maritime safety and protecting critical offshore assets in Guyana’s growing oil industry.
ExxonMobil, which operates the Stabroek Block alongside partners Hess and CNOOC, has so far discovered an estimated 11 billion oil-equivalent barrels and is currently producing more than 700,000 barrels of oil per day.
